- Lot Description
- 1949-D/S Jefferson Nickel. FS-501. MS-66 FS (PCGS).
Vivid reddish-apricot iridescence is a bit streaky on the obverse, smooth and even on the reverse. Both sides are fully lustrous with an impressively sharp strike and a billowy satin texture. Given that PCGS has awarded a Full Steps designation only eight times for 1949-D/S nickels, it is truly remarkable that the present collection contains two examples in that category. This Condition Census premium Gem is eagerly awaiting inclusion in another advanced Jefferson nickel set.
Provenance: From the George "Buddy" Byers Buckeye Collection. Earlier ex Heritage's sale of the Compradore Collections, June 2008 Summer FUN Signature Auction, lot 566.
PCGS Population: 3; with a single MS-67 FS finer in this category.
PCGS# 84039. NGC ID: 22UC.
