Lot Description
1873-S Liberty Seated Dime. Arrows. Fortin-101. Rarity-4. Repunched Date, Small Thin S. MS-63 (PCGS). Iridescent champagne-pink highlights enhance both sides, the obverse mostly silver-olive in appearance and the reverse otherwise close to brilliant. Generally sharp in strike, the S mintmark is faint and requires direct lighting and/or the aid of a loupe to discern. Lustrous and frosty with a pleasingly smooth appearance in hand. With a lower mintage of 455,000 pieces and a high rate of attrition due to circulation, the 1873-S is definitely among the scarcer Arrows, Legend Obverse Liberty Seated dimes. It is rarer than the 1874-S, especially in the finer Mint State grades, as here. Provenance: From the E. Horatio Morgan Collection. PCGS Population: 14; 24 fine (MS-65+ finest). PCGS# 4667. NGC ID: 23BJ. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
