Lot Description

Grellman Die State c. Lustrous surfaces retain plenty of deep, vivid mint orange color. Both sides are also toned in warm olive-gray and sport sharp to full detail to all major design elements. The reverse of this piece would support a Choice Mint State grade on its own, being free of detracting marks and revealing only a few faint, widely scattered carbon flecks under close scrutiny with a loupe. The reverse also presents as Choice, but has faint hairlines that are most readily evident in the field above the portrait. A tiny carbon spot at the tip of Liberty's nose identifies this handsome and significant piece for provenance purposes, which is the CC#3 coin in the Grellman census with an EAC grade of MS62.
