Description du lot
1871 Seated Liberty Quarter. MS-63 (PCGS). Seldom offered in any Mint State grade, this Reconstruction era Seated quarter was produced to the extent of just 118,200 business strikes. Even circulated examples can be elusive in today's market, suggesting that a fair percentage of the mintage must have been lost through melting. A boldly patinated example, otherwise dominant gray-apricot toning is enlivened by cobalt-blue and pinkish-rose overtones on the reverse.

Numismatic Reflections by Q. David Bowers
An attractive example of a Mint State piece, far rarer than an equivalent proof. At the time collectors sought proofs and circulation strikes were ignored.
