Lot Description

1857 Liberty Seated Quarter. Proof-64 (PCGS). A rare issue in this format with perhaps 30-50 known today. Toned with tawny-gold and gray hues, with shallow tan streaks on the obverse devices. Of course the strike is bold throughout, with the devices standing tall above the reflective fields. Shallow hairlines and a minute nick below the final star serve to hallmark this rarity. Curiously there is a die line on Liberty's chest and the reverse die shows twenty degrees of counter clockwise rotation.
