- 1864 Liberty Seated Dime. Fortin-102a. Rarity-5. MS-63 (NGC).
Pleasantly toned with the warmest patina reserved for the peripheries. The surfaces are satiny in texture with a sharp strike and uncommonly smooth appearance for the assigned grade. This is a scarce circulation strike issue from the Civil War, the disappearance of silver from commerce in the East and Midwest resulting in a mintage of just 11,000 dimes from the Philadelphia Mint in 1864. A find for the advanced collector of Liberty Seated coinage.
Provenance: From David Lawrence's sale of the Richmond Collection, Part III, March 2005, lot 1170.
NGC Census: 7; 23 finer in this category (MS-66+ finest).
PCGS# 4639. NGC ID: 239M.
