This lovely Choice Proof is bright and accented by silver-apricot iridescence that is a bit warmer on the obverse. Sharply struck with appreciable contrast between the satiny devices and reflective fields. An outstanding representative of the design type issued from 1866 until the end of this series in 1873. Not many exist at all, considering the mintage of this Proof striking came in at just 725 pieces, struck from two distinct die pairs. Osburn and Cushing estimate that just 325 examples remain from the OC-P2 die pair, offered here, and only a fraction of these are so carefully preserved that they approach or attain the Gem grade level. An exceptional coin for its quality and scarcity.
