- Obv: Standard Silver design with a bust of Liberty facing right, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the border, and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll below. Liberty is wearing a headband inscribed LIBERTY and ornamented with a single star. Rev: A wreath of oak and laurel leaves surrounds the denomination 25 CENTS with the inscription STANDARD SILVER above and the date 1869 below. Lovely deep orange-rose mint color with light iridescent brown mellowing overall. A bit of faint spotting is noted, more so on the obverse, but not out of context for the assigned numeric grade. Examples of this type were distributed to contemporary collectors as part of pattern Proof sets. The uspatterns.com website states that fewer than a dozen copper impressions with plain edge can be traced today.
