Lot Description

1852-O Liberty Head Double Eagle. AU-50 (NGC). Considerable traces of mint luster illuminate the complexion of this beautiful early Type I example. The surfaces are overall smooth and without significant abrasions, painted in lemon-yellow hues that deepen to honey shades at the borders. Sharply struck and attractive. Most survivors of this 190,000-piece mintage grade VF or EF, at which levels the 1852-O is often selected for inclusion in mintmarked gold type sets.
