Lot Description

Well defined overall despite less than perfect centering with the borders running off the flan at lower right obverse and upper right reverse, affecting only the denticulation. Frosty copper-brown surfaces are warmly and evenly toned, and are smooth apart from a few minor planchet streaks and voids on the obverse. The most significant of the latter affects the digits 17 in the date, which are faint to absent. Popular for Mint State type purposes, the Newman 13-X dies represented a substantial portion of the Fugio cents in the Bank of New York Hoard when inventoried in 1948.
