Lot Description
1786 Connecticut Copper. Miller 5.7-H.1, W-2610. Rarity-6-. Draped Bust. VF-25. 143.52 grains. Deep golden-brown with light microporosity seen under low magnification; the in-hand appearance is still substantial. Reverse die aligned to 270 degrees, Liberty's head points to 3 o'clock. Obverse sharpness nominally finer than the VF grade in places, rim tight to tops of CONNE, thin, old planchet fissure, as struck, runs diagonally from TO to the effigy's breastplate, tiny natural flaw beneath shoulder, reverse nicely centered with the rim tight to the top of all letters and the bottom of the date, faint old scratches seen, natural planchet flaw at center of Liberty. All told, still a pleasing example of a rare and elusive variety. PCGS# 337. Provenance: Ex: Phil Keller Collection. Paper envelope with attribution and rarity notes included.
