- BB Die State I. An overall boldly defined example with richly original toning in steel-olive and golden-gray. Some luster persists in the protected areas, and with no significant marks this is an exceptionally desirable Bust dollar despite having seen light to moderate circulation. 1803 is the final date that appears on these large Draped Bust dollars made for commerce. Although a trickle of dollars continued to emerge from the Mint in 1804 and 1805, these were all believed to be dated 1803 (and possibly also 1802). On the Large 3 obverse used for the BB-255 variety, offered here, the 3 is repunched low and this is diagnostic to identify the die.
