Losbeschreibung
1794 Flowing Hair Half Dollar. O-101a, T-7. Rarity-3+. Fair-12 (PCGS). Evenly worn and bold with sharp denticles at the reverse border. Deep slate shades in the fields frame lighter dove-grey across the devices. A few minor old marks are spotted at the obverse rims but these have long worn into the patina. Very attractive and perfectly suited to type collectors and specialists. The 1794 half dollar ranks among the most desirable 18th-century federal issues. Its popularity stems from a small mintage (just 23,464 pieces distributed among 11 die varieties), its status as a two year design type, and the fact that it is the very first issue in the U.S. half dollar series. Although between 200 and 300 examples of O-101 (together with O-101a) probably still exist, the vast majority are in grades below EF. PCGS# 6051. NGC ID: 24E6.
