Lot Description
Undated (Circa 1663-1672) St. Patrick or Mark Newby Halfpenny. Vlack 5-F, W-11540. Copper. Reeded Edge. Medium Obverse Letters. VF-25. 127.2 grains. Nice light brown with choice, smooth surfaces. A good looking example, sharp and ideally centered on the obverse, reverse aligned to 2 o'clock, affecting the tops of GREX. A scattering of contact marks is seen on the obverse, none on reverse. The splash is round, large, and brassy, covering the crown and stretching below it, showing some light hairlines under a glass. This is a nicer coin than the fairly sharp Norweb piece and sharper than the choicer Norweb duplicate. Craige called this "Rare and Choice" and priced it at $225 about 1970. PCGS# 46. Provenance: From the Ted L. Craige Collection.
