- Lot Description
- This is a key condition rarity in the Buffalo Nickel series, and while it is always in the shadow of its more famous cousin, the 1926-S, most mint state 27-S nickels are clustered in the MS63-64 range. In 64+ or finer, this date is very difficult to locate. Well struck with a soft satin luster and hints of pastel toning over nickel-silver surfaces. Lovely! PCGS 3, NGC 8 (in 64+). PCGS has graded 37 coins higher, the finest being a single 66 that we sold in July 2013 for $86,250. No PCGS MS64+ has sold in auction, but an NGC example sold in June 2016 for $3,995. A plain PCGS MS64 sold for $3,525 in April 2016 and at the 2016 FUN auction, an example in PCGS MS65 sold for $9,941. The current CU value is $5,250. This is a great coin for any collector building a Buffalo nickel set. PCGS # 3962 Certification Number 25608874 PCGS # 3962
