- A well produced issue with most examples sharply struck, the 1891-S is also known for above average luster quality. As Wayne Miller reports in his Morgan and Peace Dollar Textbook, "Gems are available with minimum bagmarks and are desired because of their overall attractiveness." Writing in an era before the advent of third-party certification, the author's comment about Gems clearly refers to coins that are graded "only" MS-65 by PCGS or NGC in today's market; the 1891-S is very scarce in certified MS-66 and rare any finer. This satiny and brilliant beauty will catch the eye of astute Morgan dollar enthusiasts.
