1846 N-13 R4 Tall Date with Repunched 1 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. The obverse is lustrous light bluish steel brown with traces of underlying faded mint red. The reverse is glossy golden light brown and tan. The fields are satiny and the eye appeal of this piece is very nice. The only marks are a long, very thin nick or hairline scratch in the field before the nose and mouth and a line of thin vertical nicks extending from just right of the nostril down to the chin. Otherwise this cent is choice. E-MDS, die state b, with some crumbling inside the bottom of R in AMERICA. The coronet tip and star 6 are softly struck, but everything else is sharply impressed, including the horizontal line through the middle of the 1 (from the base of a badly misplaced 1). An attractive example in spite of the minor defects. Our grade is MS60, CC#3 in the Grellman census. An important cent, and it comes with a very nice provenance. The attribution and Holmes provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; none finer at PCGS.Estimate Value $1,250 - UP
