1870 Pattern Dime. Judd-844, Pollock-943. Rarity-6-. Silver. Plain Edge. Proof-62 (PCGS). Obv: Standard Silver design, a bust of Liberty faces right with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll below. Liberty is wearing a diadem, and her hair is tied in a bun. Rev:The denomination 10 CENTS and the date 1870 within a wreath of corn and cotton, the word STANDARD inscribed along the upper border. This richly original example exhibits deep charcoal gray reverse toning that gives way to slightly lighter steel-olive patina on the obverse. Both sides are sharply struck throughout, the obverse revealing appreciable reflective qualities in the field at direct lighting angles. Provenance: From the E. Horatio Morgan Collection.
