- Description du lot
- Offered is a pleasing circulated survivor of this fabled rarity in the early quarter dollar series. Both sides are boldly and deeply toned with rich rose highlights to dominant steely-charcoal patina. The strike is well centered and overall bold, the design elements retaining appreciable boldness of detail in the recesses despite the presence of moderately heavy, yet even wear. There is some underlying glossiness to the texture, and a loupe reveals some wispy handling marks, but the in-hand appearance is pleasingly smooth for a Draped Bust quarter that saw considerable commercial use. Rea et al. Die State P.<p>First of the United States Mint's regular issue quarters, and the only one of the Draped Bust, Small Eagle design type, the 1796 is a strong performer throughout the numismatic grading scale. The offered coin is a survivor from a scant mintage of 6,146 pieces, and it represents the Browning-2 High 6 variety of the issue.
