1838 Modified Matron Head Cent. N-4. Rarity-2. Noyes Die State D/B. MS-67 BN (PCGS). CAC. <strong>Die Variety: </strong>Newcomb-4 is one of 16 varieties for the date. "Broken" E in LIBERTY, the upper left serif missing. <br /> <strong>&nbsp;<br /> Die State:</strong> Obverse cracks at star 9 to hair bun, others at 83 in date to hair curls above.<br /> <br /> <strong>Strike: </strong>Boldly struck throughout with just a hint of weakness on a few obverse stars.<strong>&nbsp;<br /> </strong><br /> <strong>Surfaces: </strong>Satiny deep rose-tan surfaces with lively luster and whispers of soft mint orange throughout. No marks of consequence are seen on either side.&nbsp;<br /> &nbsp;<br /> <strong>Census Rankings:</strong> The Noyes Census lists this Gem as tied for 7th finest; the Bland Census calls it tied for&nbsp;1st finest.&nbsp;Noyes grades it MS-62+; Bland calls if MS-65; McCawley-Grellman calls it MS-65.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> <strong>Pedigree:</strong>&nbsp;Dr. Robert J.
