Lot Description
This pleasing example exhibits wisps of pale rose blending with dominant pearl gray patina. The obverse (mounted as the reverse in the PCGS holder) is off center to 7 o'clock, border close to the tops of the letters POLIS in ANNAPOLIS, lip of virgin flan beyond the denticles at upper right. Reverse centering is a bit better, although there is no denticulation at upper left. The planchet is choice for the type, free of flaws, the surfaces with only a few light marks in and around the centers that generally require magnification to discern. All major design elements are fully discernible, and most are boldly defined, further confirming this as an excellent type candidate from the challenging Chalmers shilling series.
