Lot Description
1821 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-103. Rarity-2. MS-64+ (PCGS). A truly stunning near-Gem that boasts incredible eye appeal and superior preservation. The dominant olive-gold patina features subtle sapphire-blue iridescence at the borders on both sides. Well centered and very sharply struck, with intricate central elements and crisp denticles at the rims. This is an important Condition Census example of the O-103 variety that sits at CC#2 on Herrman's Autumn 2020 listing behind only an MS-65 (NGC). It maintains this strong standing even within the overall 1821 issue and only 6 coins have been certified finer by PCGS across all varieties. Provenance: Ex Robert Seigel's sale of November 1984, lot 227. PCGS Population: 1; 6 finer. PCGS# 6128. NGC ID: 24FF. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
