- 1837 Capped Bust Half Dollar. Reeded Edge. 50 CENTS. GR-25. Rarity-5+. VG-8 (PCGS).
Attractively original in dove and silver-gray patina, the surfaces are remarkably smooth for having seen such extensive circulation. All major design elements are at last partially discernible, and most are boldly outlined. Middle die state with a sharp crack from the lower left obverse border into Liberty's bust. The GR-25 is the scarcest die pairing of the 1837 Reeded Edge half dollar issue, edging out GR-1 and GR-11 for this distinction.
Provenance: From the Jim Koenings Collection. Earlier from Heritage's Long Beach Signature Auction of June 2018, lot 4410.
PCGS# 531079.
