- Bert Davies Collection. 9 graded AU-50, 36 higher at NGC. Reasonably obtainable as a Charlotte representative and therefore a strong candidate for type, 1841-C half-eagles survive generally in better circulated grades off a mintage of 21,467 pieces. Often, however, technically "better grade" examples are unattractive since many were somewhat abused over their lifetime. Not so this relatively unscathed survivor -- the surface displays fewer marks than usual for Charlotte gold and both sides boast better-than-average detailing. As is often true, the color seems pale and somewhat lemon-gold in hue, accented with a bare minimum of flowline luster around some peripheral devices.
