- 1888 Indian Cent. Proof-65 RD (PCGS). A condition rarity at the Gem level and retaining the original Red color with a dash of golden-lilac iridescence on both sides. The surfaces are clean, with no carbon problems or handling issues that are commonly seen on these delicate coins. Reviewing the <em>Population Report</em> finds precious few Red examples certified in Proof, as most show considerably more fading to the color than seen here, and thus even more desirable for the collector. An important offering for the date specialist.
