Lot Description
1942 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. FS-801. Doubled Die Reverse. MS-66+ (PCGS). Warm golden-apricot and champagne-pink iridescence flows over the obverse, while the more lightly patinated reverse is dressed in iridescent gold. Both sides are sharply struck with smooth, frosty luster throughout. One of the two most popular DDR varieties in the Walking Liberty half dollar series (the other is the 1946 FS-801, see below), the 1942 FS-801 exhibits particularly prominent doubling to the letters in the denomination HALF DOLLAR. This is an expertly preserved premium Gem that is seemingly earmarked for inclusion in an advanced Walking Liberty half dollar set on the PCGS Registry. Provenance: From our Baltimore Auction of November 2017, lot 3202. PCGS Population (FS-801 attribution only): 1; 3 finer (MS-67+ finest). PCGS# 145159. NGC ID: 24S6.
