Lot Description

Breen Die State VI. Softly struck on the reverse, which is typical for this die pairing, although the obverse is considerably sharper with crisp detail to most features. There is plenty of faded pinkish-orange mint color on both sides, the surfaces also with pleasant toning in warm chestnut and lighter gray-brown hues. Minor roughness and faint surface build up in areas joins with a somewhat subdued appearance to explain the MS-61 numeric grade from PCGS, but there are no marks of consequence; a thin, shallow planchet void in the right obverse field is as made and serves as a useful identifier for provenance purposes. The 2000 Bland census includes only four EAC Mint State coins for this Sheldon number, along with a number of AUs, confirming the significance of the high grade Widmer Family specimen.
