Lot Description

1838-D Classic Half Eagle. Winter 1-A, the only known dies. EF-40 (PCGS). Dominant khaki-gold color to both sides, the more protected areas around the devices revealing flickers of vivid copper-rose tinting. Well defined in the presence of overall light wear, with few individually conspicuous abrasions in evidence. Accuracy does compel us to mention some glossiness to the surface texture. An extremely important and popular issue among advanced gold collectors, the 1838-D is the first Dahlonega Mint Half Eagle and the only one of the brief Classic design type.
