1863 Pattern Washington Two-Cent Piece. Judd-305, Pollock-370. Rarity-4. Proof-62 BN (PCGS). A bust of George Washington faces right on the obverse with the legend GOD AND OUR COUNTRY above and the date 1863 below. The reverse exhibits the denomination 2 CENTS within a wreath of wheat, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the border. The word CENTS is markedly curved. Struck in copper or bronze with a plain edge.
With rich toning in a blend of deep-copper and gray-brown colors, this bold-looking specimen also offers uncommonly smooth surfaces at the assigned grade level. A sharply struck example of this popular pattern type.
