This is the more frequently encountered die paring of the Proof 1868 nickel three-cent piece, the JD-2 Centered Date probably a circulation strike die that the Mint employed for only a few Proofs. The total mintage for this Proof issue is estimated at 725 pieces (per John W. Dannreuther, 2023), and this glittering Gem will please even the most discerning numismatist.
