- 1853-GG Round 50 Cents. BG-414. Rarity-5-. Liberty Head. MS-60 (PCGS).
A popular scarcity with a federal-style head of Liberty and the maker's mark, GG, for the firm of Gaime, Guillemot & Co., active in San Francisco circa 1852 to 1854. This is an example of one of the varieties that was recovered in the early 1960s from the wreck of the S.S. Winfield Scott which sank in December 1853.
