- This beautiful Gem specimen offers a fully executed strike that has resulted in intricate detail to every strand of Liberty's hair, every radial line in the obverse stars, and all of the eagle's plumage. Vivid orange-gold color blankets both sides, and the surfaces offer bold contrast between satiny motifs and mirrored fields. Nearly in the Superb Gem category, this coin has been handled with the utmost care by successive generations of collectors.<p>The Philadelphia Mint struck its final Proof Liberty Head double eagles in 1907, the total amounting to just 78 pieces. The final-year status and relative availability of this issue have made it a perennial favorite among Proof gold type collectors. Most scholars agree on an extant population in the range of 40 to 65 specimens, a fair number of which are heavily hairlined or otherwise impaired. This very well preserved and appealing example offers both absolute and condition rarity - the kind of coin that will attract strong bids from advanced numismatists.
