Lot Description
D.W. COLLECTION. Exceptionally bold eye appeal! Popular as a Civil War year, this GEM Proof 1861 half has rich, reflective mirrors that beam from below a layer of iridescent toning. The obverse has some teal, lilac, gold and rose dappled patina, while the reverse is awash blue, orange, amber, and rose hues. The eye appeal is wonderful and totally original. Only 1,000 were struck. PCGS 11, NGC 17, CAC 4. Only two PCGS/CAC coins have ever sold in auction, $7,638 in April 2014 and the other in October 2011 for $5,868. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $6,500. The eye appeal on this GEM is superb, and should see very spirited bidding, as only a half dozen examples have received higher grades--PR66 the finest. Cert. Number 15422995 PCGS # 6415
