Lot Description

Tompkins Die Stage 2/2, Rea et al. Die State b, the obverse with a single bisecting crack from the upper border outside the letter R in LIBERTY, to the lower border below the digit 6 in the date. Deeply toned surfaces are dressed in blended charcoal and steel gray. Lightly struck in the centers, typical of the die pairing, yet much better defined toward the peripheries where moderate wear has left plenty of bold detail. The surfaces are a bit subdued overall, but reveal no troublesome marks. The Browning-4 remains a scarcer die pairing for the 1806-dated quarter despite its reclassification from Rarity-5- to Rarity-4.
