Lot Description
Anyone who knows Toned Morgan dollars knows that the 1921 is one of the hardest dates to find with attractive color. Typically, the date comes white, or with a dusty, russet-tan gold color. Classic bag toned examples are extremely rare. An arching band of rainbow toning encircles the left 2/3 of the obverse before fading to pale opalescent blue/green and clear gold. We rate the color a 9+ on our 10-point color scale for the date. WOW! There are some traces of contact and a deeper reeding mark or two seen with the aid of a class under the toning, which is all that keeps this coin from a full GEM grade. The eye appeal is very impressive. A coin like this would have been right at home in the Roadrunner or Sunnywood-Simpson set. We know this coin will end up in a memorable, world class assemblage like those when the hammer drops. Cert. Number 29674800 PCGS # 7296
