Well blended orange-rose mint color and light olive-brown patina deliver attractive originality for this endearing Gem. Smartly impressed and expectably smooth for the assigned grade. This is an extremely popular variety that commands strong premiums in all grades. It is characterized by clear repunching to the digits 69 in the date. No more than 2,000 examples are thought to exist in all grades, and Gem Mint State examples are rare. Walter Breen in his <em>Complete Encyclopedia</em> (1988) noted that he himself discovered this variety circa 1953.
