Lot Description

FS-101 (previously FS-004.5), the "Earring Head". Obviously dulled a bit by its battle against widely scattered abrasions, potent luster still flashes from the fields, enriched by royal golden hue. The cataloger has rarely seen anyone else make mention of the obvious "earring" that shows on the obverse of a few 1854 half-eagles, but it was documented in the catalog for the Harry Bass Collection as sold in November 2000.
