A perfect MS70-graded example of this very popular and GORGEOUS modern issue, reproducing one of St. Gaudens’ experiments of 1907 where the $20 was struck in ultra high relief on a thicker, reduced diameter planchet (hoping that the extra metal would make striking easier). This never came to fruition, and only a single original is known, impounded in the Smithsonian. Housed in an Early Releases holder. PCGS 1682, NGC 309.
