1911-S Indian Half Eagle. MS-65 (NGC). At the absolute top of those seen by NGC with a mere four coins that have earned the gem grade from that service for this date and mint. Ample mint luster on the obverse and reverse graces the brilliant yellow-gold planchet. Further study finds little more than a few stray contact marks, and the strike is typical of this era and Mint with minor peripheral softness. For reasons unknown--but quickly discerned--this issue is rather plentiful in high circulated grades or low mint state grades. Coins certified as MS-63 or finer are few and far between. Thus, this stellar Gem should be strongly considered by any date specialist who demands quality and eye appeal. The S mintmark is repunched low, as seen on a handful of this date and mint.
