- Lot Description
- Breen Die State II. Nice olive and medium brown patina to surfaces that reveal faint good gloss as the coin dips into a light. Well centered in strike with virtually all major design elements expectably bold given the NGC grade. The surfaces are worthy of a net grade from EAC, however, as we see several light to moderate marks that include scratches at and below Liberty's chin on the reverse and below the letters TED in UNITED, faint granularity engaging some of the design elements, and a small planchet void on the reverse at lower left which has severely weakened the letters UN in UNITED. The dies for this variety are attributed to Frederick Riche, who worked under Engraver Robert Scot for 18 days at the rate of $1/day, and was paid in June 1794. The Sheldon-55 cents are believed to have been delivered between June 26 and July 8.
