Lot Description
Rare 1853 Round Liberty Head Quarter BG-210, Rarity-7 1853-FD Round 25 Cents. BG-210. Rarity-7. Liberty Head. AU-55 (PCGS). OGH. Crudely reeded edge. Deep olive-gold with even deeper highlights throughout. A rare prize. Even though "just" AU-55, the present piece is among the five finest examples of BG-210 certified by PCGS. Indeed, that firm estimates that perhaps as few as eight to 10 examples of the variety can be found today. From the firm of Frontier, Deviercy & Co., active in San Francisco 1853 to 1864. Maker's mark, FD, below bust. Interestingly, the 4 in the reverse fraction is backwards. An elusive issue that should elicit great bidding response. PCGS# 10395. Provenance: From the Ronald Lyle Collection. PCGS Population: 2; 3 finer (MS-63 finest).
