Lot Description
Billowy mint luster blends with warm honey-rose color on both sides of this enchanting Gem. With a razor sharp strike and expertly preserved surfaces, this remarkable condition rarity is sure to impress.<p>The 1914 is one of the more available of the Indian eagle issues despite a limited mintage of 151,000 pieces. The coins were struck at a time of growing hostility in Europe and economic skittishness at home. The great melts of the 1930s claimed many coins, while some eagles were shipped abroad in the form of foreign payments where they remained until returning stateside after World War II. The majority of survivors are heavily bagmarked, the telltale signs of this storage and transportation in sacks. Gem Mint State examples are in short supply and with only a handful of specimens that may be considered finer, this a splendid example for the finest of eagle cabinets.
