- 1865 Pattern Seated Liberty Half Dollar. Judd-430, Pollock-503. Rarity-6+. Proof-64 BN (PCGS). The obverse features the same design that the Mint used to strike regular issue 1865 Seated Liberty Half Dollars. The reverse exhibits the w/Motto type adopted for regular issue production in 1866. Struck in copper with a reeded edge.<br /> A very scarce type with perhaps fewer than a dozen copper impressions known, Judd-430 dates to the late 1860s/early 1870s and was made expressly for distribution to contemporary collectors. With tinges of olive patina to otherwise dominant sandy-brown surfaces. A pair of thin planchet flaws (as made) bisect the lower-left reverse and upper-left obverse; scattered carbon flecks are also noted for both sides.
