Lot Description
1652 Massachusetts Bay Colony Oak Tree Threepence. Noe-28, W-310. Rarity-4. No IN on Obverse. EF-40 (PCGS). 16.9 grains. Deep steel-gray with a touch of slate in the recessed areas. Obverse details slightly weak in places, mainly at the periphery where certain letters are present but soft, rim to top of M, later to tops of VS and through ETS, tree details fairly strong, no traces of circulation marks, reverse nicely centered, rim free of all legends, a touch of weakness at top of 6 in date, no marks worthy of discussion found. A pleasing coin all told, and with a virtually unbeatable numismatic pedigree. PCGS# 18. Provenance: Ex: Charles E. Clapp; Carl Wurtzbach; T. James Clarke; F.C.C. Boyd; and our (Stack's) sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part XII, October 2005, lot 61. The Noe and Wurtzbach plate coins.
