Lot Description
An incredible GEM, SUPERB in quality and eye appeal, this 1908-O Barber half is stunning in its PCGS Generation 1.0 "rattler" encapsulation, meaning that it was graded in the very first few days of coin grading at PCGS. These holders are VERY RARE and highly desirable in today's market, even common coins bring HUGE premiums. A scarce Gem type coin, that is very conservatively graded, as seen by CAC's coveted GOLD bean. The surfaces offer an impressive satiny frost and billowing mint brilliance. The gleaming luster accents the mottled golden-olive, russet-tan, and pearly-silver surfaces. Generally well struck with bold definition throughout, save for some minor weakness in the central reverse. A couple of very minor ticks are seen with a strong glass, but they do not detract. While we cannot guarantee it, we have seen MS67 examples that match this SUPERB GEM's quality and visual allure. PCGS 43, NGC 36, CAC GOLD 1. In MS67, the CAC CPG value is $15,600 and the PCGS Price Guide is $14,500. For the Barber half dollar collector, this GEM offers a superb look and quality. For collectors who covet CAC gold stickers, this is the only GEM 08-O half that has been awarded that honor. Finally, for those who collect early and RARE generation slabs, you know how hard these are to find! With all the layers of demand this coin offers, we would not be surprised if our estimate was exceeded! Good luck. Cert. Number 1080441 PCGS # 6514.00
