DS2. Otherwise warm chestnut brown patina gives way to deeper crimson and charcoal-green colors over the upper right reverse, where some ancient surface scale, verdigris and other build up is seen. A faint spot of scale is also seen at the upper right obverse border, but the balance of that side is smooth. Detail is bold for the grade in all areas save for at the upper obverse, where the border is into the peripheral lettering; the all-important running fox is plainly evident despite a touch of softness at lower left reverse. This is a popular Maris number to represent the Running Fox <em>Guide Book</em> variety, and it is represented here nicely by a solid mid grade example with some good gloss.
