- Manley Die State 3.0. Exceptional quality and eye appeal for the type, date and die pairing. Both sides retain plenty of faded rose-red mint color that shines forth nicely from the protected areas around the peripheries. Otherwise warmly toned in steely olive-brown, the surfaces have a hard, frosty texture and are free of all but a few trivial blemishes that find greatest concentration in the right obverse field. A lovely Choice AU, superior in all regards, and worthy of the strongest bids.<p>While not as plentiful as Cohen-2, the C-3 is also a readily obtainable die marriage of the 1803-dated half cent issue. With a mere 10 Mint State coins extant (per Bill Eckberg, 2019), the 1803 C-3 is as conditionally challenged as one would expect for an early date U.S. Mint copper, these being heavily circulated issues. That offered here was fortunate to escape all but the shortest stint in active circulation, and it has come down to the present day as a scarce Choice AU equally suited for inclusion in a high grade type set or early copper cabinet.
