- 69.1 grains. A generally pewter gray example with steely-olive highlights at the peripheries. Ovoid planchet with a lengthy, yet thin crack at 7 o'clock relative to the obverse, borders into the letters at left obverse and upper left reverse. Portions of the peripheral lettering are otherwise soft, and some patience is required to read the legends in their entirety. The centers are sharper with a tree that is bold everywhere except at the two lowest branches on the left side of the trunk. An old, toned over scratch to the left of the Roman numeral X on the reverse is the only mark of note. Similar die state to the primary and secondary Syd Martin coins offered in our August 2023 and August 2024 Global Showcase Auctions, with the familiar bird's nest break in the middle of the tree's branches at right well developed and plainly evident despite the lower grade of this coin.
