Lot Description

Tied for second FINEST graded at PCGS, this is a totally original example from the first year of issue. Clearly this coin was carefully set aside back in 1916 and was left alone. Warm pewter-silver toning is brought out by a wonderful satiny luster. The strike is full, and the eye appeal is excellent. PCGS 213, NGC 86, CAC 97. There are 38 graded MS67+ and just 15 finer. The most recent example we sold realized $2,585 in May 2019 and prior to that we sold one in March 2019 for $2,174. More recent examples sold anywhere from $1,140 to $1,920.
