Description du lot
Obv: A bust of Washington faces right with the inscription GOD AND OUR COUNTRY around the border and the date 1863 below. Rev: The denomination 2 CENTS is centered within a wreath of wheat with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the border. The word CENTS is markedly curved. Blended copper and steel-brown patina is a bit deeper on the obverse, where an old carbon spot is seen along the leading edge of Washington's neck. This Washington portrait pattern type has broad crossover appeal with numismatists. Per a notation in George Eckfeldt's journal, as related by the uspatterns.com website, these were struck in late 1863.
